  STMicroelectronics Named Among Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations

Geneva, February 14, 2012 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, has announced that for the third year in succession it has been ranked among the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations” by Corporate Knights 1, a company dedicated to promoting “clean capitalism.” In the 2012 list announced on January 25, ST advanced 8 places to the 75th place on the list, compared to No. 83 in 2011 and No. 87 in 2010. It is one of the only three semiconductor manufacturers to be included in the Global 100 list.

  Infineon Technologies and Fairchild Semiconductor Expand Compatibility Partnership for Power MOSFETs

Infineon Technologies and Fairchild Semiconductor today announced the extension of their compatibility partnership to encompass Infineon’s proprietary 5x6 power stage asymmetric dual MOSFET package. Infineon’s PowerStage 5x6 is a leadless SMD package, which integrates the low-side and high-side MOSFET of a synchronous DC/DC converter into a 5x6mm² package outline. This allows reduction in design area by up to 85%. The package also minimizes loop inductance and thereby achieves a peak efficiency of 93.5%.

  Resistive touchscreens add multitouch capabilities

As a desire for touch features sweeps across all markets, many applications look to upgrade to multitouch technology but can’t afford the high price of capacitive touchscreens. Thanks to new developments at Freescale Semiconductor, however, automobiles, appliances, medical devices, and low-end smartphones can now retrofit multitouch gestures to resistive-touchscreen designs or create inexpensive alternatives to capacitive-touchscreen products.
